Stumped - Juniper Home

Entry and Hallway

I know it was ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ with Blueprint mag, but most of the time I loved it, and I was sad when they closed their doors. Just like Domino, a lot of the ideas and featured rooms from Blueprint stick out in my mind, even years later.

So what do you think I remembered when I saw these stumps for sale in the Pottery Barn catalog?

The red stumps! Remember when they featured Elena Columbo’s small beach cottage?

I think a pair of PB stumps (or go find your own fallen tree and start hacking) and a quart of oil-based paint in a gorgeous, unexpected color – like red, mustard yellow or turquoise – would be amazing paired underneath an entryway bench.

My photoshop skills are not the best, but here’s a doctored image to help give you an idea .

  1. Those particular stumps look like tiny tree people, and would therefore terrify my kids (and let’s face it, me). But I see where you’re going with the bright color on a natural piece.

  2. I was a Blueprint fan too!!!

And although I don't remember the "stump" feature, I LOVE your idea & that perfect terquoise color, fantastic. Now, if I can just remember where I put that chainsaw…

    : – )

  3. You have the best taste. I love your ideas!! Thanks for all the work you put into this blog!

  4. You are right! And there is a fallen tree in my garden right now. I am afraid of a chainsaw, though.

But do you think this might work in a garden? Maybe using some sort of outside paint in a pale turquoise or maybe a magenta to offset all the green of the jungle like garden?

  5. I love the stumps. I’ve been wanting some for a while now and now I love your idea of painting them. My neighbors recently chopped down a big tree – I wonder if they’d be willing to part with some of it . . .

  6. LOVE this!!

Can’t wait to find a fallen tree to chop up! I guess the pottery barn ones can be my back up?

    Thanks for the great idea!

  7. I’m so glad you posted this, bc I have all the Blueprint mags, but I don’t remember this feature at all. You’ve inspired me to pull out all the (8?) issues to see what else I missed!
